Best New Bike Legislation

The Three Feet for Safety Act
True, the law, which says drivers must be at least three feet away from cyclists when passing them is kinda impossible to enforce. Not to mention, it probably hasn’t altered people’s crappy driving habits — cyclists are still getting hit by cars. But here’s the thing: The law makes it much easier to legally hold drivers accountable when they do hit cyclists — intentionally or not. Before this law went into effect last year, a driver charged with manslaughter or reckless driving would likely never be prosecuted or fined. Not anymore. If you hit a cyclist you’re going to shell out, at the very least, $220-plus court fee. And that makes us happy.
