Best Neighborhood Restaurant

Whether it's Sunday night's signature dish of buttermilk fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and sumptuous corn bread, or the sirloin house burger with apple-smoked bacon, or the grilled ahi with roasted red pepper-caper aioli, you simply can't go wrong at Russian Hill's Street. Thank God, comfort food reigns supreme here. The menu changes daily, which lends a nice variety for neighborhood regulars. The restaurant is dimly lit and cozy, with an especially friendly staff (bartenders Laura and Jennifer are veterans of the glory days at the Hotel Utah). We recommend taking a seat at the bar and ordering a glass of Seghesio '00 zinfandel (a steal at $7) before ordering your meal. An intriguing, oddball mix of characters is always on hand, so be prepared to converse with someone besides your date. (On that note, be leery of bringing a booty call here, 'cause it won't go unnoticed -- you're bound to run into someone you know.) No matter, the vibe is feel-good, especially after you've ingested the warm bittersweet chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, which will send you out of Street floating on an endorphin high.
