Best Lower Haight Time Capsule

Love N' Haight

553 Haight St., 415-252-8190
For those not in the know, Love N’ Haight has always been an easy-to-ignore hole in the wall in the Lower Haight. Once upon a time, it was just a place that drunk vegan punks hit up after a long night of boozing at Molotov’s or Toronado, because it catered to herbivores in the least pretentious way possible. These days, against all odds, not only is it still standing, but it remains largely unchanged. You can still get some of the best sandwiches in the whole city, served in a weird, quasi-Buddhist, somewhat-Atlantis-favoring (no, really) environment, for almost the same amount it charged back in 2002. It’s not always the fastest service, the aesthetics are still strictly no frills, and there are no bathrooms for patrons, but the sandwiches are as perfect and delectable as ever — and at a price that won’t dent your wallet.
