The Mint

1942 Market (at Duboce), 626-4726,

If the thought of singing karaoke, whether drunk or sober, in front of a huge crowd is a terrifying proposition, the Mint might just be the most intimidating place to choose. That's because if ever there was a place where karaoke is taken seriously, it's here. A disproportionate number of talented amateurs and professionals flock to the bar to practice their stage presence and have a few laughs; it's not a spot to flex your lack of sturdy pipes. But despite the high standards, a friendly, spirited atmosphere envelops even those who stay planted in a chair in the corner. The biggest reason that the Mint gets our karaoke kudos, however, is that it is irrefutably more committed to the art form than any of its competitors: The Mint is open 365 days a year.
