Best Japanese Grocery

Super Mira

A few months ago we took it upon ourselves to cook up a six-course Japanese meal despite a collective lack of experience in sushi-rolling and tempura-frying and a cupboard bereft of harusame and shoga. Luckily, Super Mira (and its predecessor, Super Koyama) has been around for years, providing virtuoso and beginner alike with all the ingredients for an authentic and delightful Japanese banquet. The produce baskets brim with kabu, gobo, fuki, and taro root; the fish department offers up glistening toro, maguro, and hamachi (as well as freshly rolled sushi at an adjacent counter); sakes, wines, and beers line the liquor aisle. Noodles, seaweed, rice crackers, several varieties of soy sauce, and exotica like boiled butterbur are also available to ensure a memorable culinary adventure.
