Anybody who can find Sociale (at the end of a narrow, slanted lane that appears unexpectedly at the midway point of an ordinary retail block of Sacramento) is welcome to dine there, though reservations are recommended for the small, urbane Italian eatery, with an especially pleasant, rather magical plant-lined patio. But you have to have an in to eat in the City Club, atop the Stock Exchange building; only members and their guests are permitted to frequent the perfectly preserved suite of art deco rooms, with a famous Diego Rivera mural, among other stunning artworks, although a free tour (reservations required) is scheduled the first Wednesday of every month.
