Renaissance Man
The public goes nuts over Leonardo da Vinci when exhibitions of his artwork hang on museum walls, and tonight, Bay Area-dwellers can (sort of) meet the Renaissance master in person. The occasion is a presentation of
Being Leonardo da Vinci: Interview Impossible, a one-act play in which Italian actor-director Massimiliano Finazzer Flory transforms himself into the painter, scientist, engineer, architect, and genius. Formatted as an interview with a reporter, Flory’s elderly Leonardo reads some of his texts and comments on everything from his work methods to his personal passions to The Last Supper. The dialogue is sometimes in English, sometimes in Renaissance Italian (with projected titles), and sometimes in dance. Choreographed by Michela Lucenti, the dance component is inspired by Leonardo’s famous “Vitruvian Man.” A cocktail party at 6:30 p.m., benefiting the We Love Italian program’s effort to hold Italian-language classes in Northern California and beyond, precedes the performance.
