If Detroit's holy trinity of techno innovators, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May, had a son, it would be Stacey Pullen . Pullen was mentored by both Saunderson and May, assisting each with original productions in the early '90s, eventually achieving his own success in technophilic capitals such as Belgium and Germany. Today, Pullen crafts music that ranges from abstract electronic jazz to the most unrelenting techno. He prefers to spin three- to four-hour sets, during which he'll most likely be dancing harder than you are. In addition to Pullen, "The San Francisco-Detroit Connection," as it's being billed, hosts DJs Nikola Baytala, Mattski, Lucas Rodenbush, Jenö, and Adnan, and will serve as the CD release celebration for Leathal (aka San Josebased genre-defying DJs Christopher and Paul Leath). It all goes down on Friday, Aug. 19, at Ten 15 Folsom; visit www.1015.com for more info. -- Tamara Palmer
The disco sound has been nearly destroyed by drunken bachelorette parties, a Reagan-era backlash, and, most recently, Homosexual Pride, with its corporate-sponsored floats pumping out awful Gloria Gaynor and Village People classics. But disco consists of much more than gimmicky platform shoes, polyester suits, and doin' the Hustle -- none of which you'll find at the following party. Marcia and Ryan, the inspired team that produced last year's legendary "Rehab" Sunday brunches, return with a summer afternoon series called "Feather" at the Bambuddha Lounge. Don't think of worn-out camp crap like Saturday Night Fever; instead think of the sun-drenched pool-party scene in Boogie Nights. Think of macramé and oversize sunglasses. Think of lounging about. This is a disco party West Coast style, bathed in an amber hue, with a creative yet approachable crowd milling around an indoor-outdoor poolside setting. You won't find a disco inferno blazing here, but you will hear DJs Omar and James Glass playing Italo-disco and electro sounds. Miss Anna Conda also performs when the wine spills this and every third Sunday through Oct. 16; call 885-5088 or visit www.feathersundays.com for more info.-- Brock Keeling
