As You Like It & Heidi: Show Preview

Wednesday, Oct 12 2011

It seems like the longer it's around, the less literal the term DJ becomes: most DJs that come to mind are producers more than record-choosers. Unlike your Khaleds and Premiers, Heidi, who's based in — where else? — Berlin, is among a small group of DJs who are famous for just DJing. Raised in Windsor, Ontario, Heidi Van Den Amstel grew up on Plastikman and Detroit raves before decamping to London and a job at Phonica Records. Those would normally be helpful coordinates for figuring out what kind of sound you're in for, but Heidi's own taste has less to do with acid or UK bass than the deep end of house — soulful and warm cuts building patiently to dance euphoria.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
