This Friday marks the debut of his solo live performance in the U.S. (He played live in New York last year with fellow disco producer Lindstrøm.) He recently performed with a full band who won't be coming to the States, but as Terje explains it, that might not be a bad thing: "There's actually no musicians on stage with me for my solo show, but when we played with the band in Oslo last weekend, I had to choose songs that fit a band. Now that I'm playing completely alone in S.F., I'm allowed to choose more 'techy' and danceable songs." Get your dancing shoes ready.
If you've been a Terje fan for awhile, you know that he started off making essential edits and remixes of old disco cuts. When I ask him if we can expect any more in the future, he says "it's doubtful that any edits will come from me in the future. It was exciting many years ago, but the reasons why I did them, to have something unique to play out, are gone."
No matter — after listening to his new record, appropriately titled It's Album Time, you get the sense that Terje's career is just beginning. Catch him live while you can so you can say you were there.
And since this is As You Like It's 4th anniversary, there is loads of other talent on the bill — New Jersey's DJ QU and Baltimore's Maurice Fulton headline alongside a bevy of San Francisco's best local DJs. Advance tickets have sold out for this one, but there will be tickets at the door for those who arrive early.
