As the genre cryptically referred to as "minimal" has evolved, it has reconciled its tech-house foundations with some deep house and trance roots. Greece-born, Berlin-based Argyris "Argy" Theofilis plays the style between those dubby chords, melodic vocal spurs, vamping tribal beats, and synth stabs. And the producer — who has worked with Poker Flat, Cocoon, Raum Music, and liebe*detail, among other labels — has been pushing forward in recent months. He's using visceral low-end and string swells to deliver more epic scorchers while maintaining minimal's ear for spatial placement and paced evolvement.
