Any Relation to Pam or Rosey?

Wednesday, Jul 7 2010
David Alan Grier has been part of some of television’s best comedy moments. He was a cast member in Emmy-winning sketch comedy series In Living Color, which deigned not only to showcase more than one black man at a time, but also to make late-night comedy funny. His short-lived (one season, 2008) and often-brilliant Comedy Central show, Chocolate News, yielded some spectacular moments, among them Grier’s Maya Angelou imitation (his rendition of the beloved poet’s many expressions is priceless), and his announcement regarding the death of hip-hop: “Rap is supposed to have a message, and that message is, ‘It takes a nation of millions to hold us back,’ not ‘Young, black, and famous with money hanging out of my anus.’ Hip-hop, have you lost yo’ damn mind?” Sure, he’s turned in some skilled drama, including the notable Baadasssss and The Woodsman, and he even dipped his toe into the board-game–based fantasy pool with Jumanji. Of course, you could even know him from his many spots on love advice radio show Loveline. But tonight’s standup gig is just how you want to catch Grier: up close, smart, and funny.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
