And They Do Work Hard

Wednesday, Jul 13 2011
The Saturday Night Soul Spectacular is something like a really great vintage-record DJ night, full of the retro sounds of 1960s and ’70s funk rock. Only the music here is live and original, not recorded. The Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra and the Struts join in the celebration of the second album by Lord Loves a Working Man, a huge local slab of rhythm and blues. It’s the first record to feature the two current lead singers, Freddi Price and Cynthia Taylor. But like the previous release, it continues the band’s mission to put its crazy-talented horn section, bass section, guitar section, and drum section in the service of pleasing both your heart and your booty.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
