And The winner is...

Wednesday, Feb 19 2014

Watching the Oscars can be exasperating. When a film that should have won didn't, or an actor who shouldn't have won did, the temptation to scream can be enormous. But screaming at a TV in an empty apartment is an exercise in futility, and can't be good for relations with the neighbors. The boisterous, opinionated, and generally sarcastic have a better option: the Up the Oscars Benefit Bash. It's an Oscar party where "the little guy strikes back by yelling stuff at the big screen." Organizers say they will provide free refreshments, but due to the length of the show, attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks as well. They're also encouraged to bring "high heels and a bad attitude." We'll probably skip the heels, but will definitely bring the attitude to root for American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, or anything but The Wolf of Wall Street for best picture.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
