And Environs

Wednesday, Dec 24 2008
Do you ever look at buildings and think "Man, architects are assholes?" We do. So many structures that protect humans from the elements seem designed to indulge the architect's ego in obsure ways, and torture those inside and outside. Why make them so ugly? Why make them so difficult to heat, cool, light, and sanitate? At "Plan B," Sasha Petrenko curates five artists as they take on the world of construction. One of them, Kathryn Kenworth, was the co-creator of a truly great piece of installation art several years back: A full-size porch, very friendly, complete with rocking chairs and steps to sit on, made almost completely out of cardboard. It was beautiful, functional, interesting ... she's no architect. Other artists include Sacha Eckes, Lauren Davies, David Hamill, and Jeff Kao.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
