One of electronica's shrewdest producers, Amon Tobin is always evolving. The recent San Francisco transplant's last album, 2007's Foley Room, took field recordings of insects, motorcycles, and the Kronos Quartet (among others) and transformed them into a melange of slamming breakbeats, ambient mirages, and cinematic downtempo exotica. These studio-intensive works are impossible to play live, unfortunately. However, Tobin's DJ sets attempt to re-create a similar listening environment as his albums, i.e., a Sensurround soundstorm that can be danceable or disorienting, but is always a trippy listen.
