Alter Ego

We have all fantasized about being someone else, perhaps a shinier, braver version of the face that meets the faces that we meet. Performers take on personas as a profession — they get praised when they seem to live in a role, they learn to devise means of turning affects into reflex, and they pursue authenticity at all costs through method. BodiGram, directed by choreographers Blair Bodie and Julia Graham, looks at performers under the lens of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in Hysteria, a satirical look at dissociative identity disorder, a rare mental condition in which the development of alter egos becomes an illness. BodiGram examines the desire to dissociate in the face of the absurd and overwhelming conditions of human existence and attempts to show how sanity and disorder can rub against each other as a matter of survival and habit in our times.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
