Acting UP: GIRLFLY Visuals, a new art exhibit designed by local youth for the Tenderloin, opens in the Tenderloin Museum’s gallery on 8/16! GIRLFLY, the summer youth workshop of activist aerial dance crew Flyaway Productions, introduces 20 teen girls to “outcast activism” in the TL, integrating social justice, female empowerment, oral history writing, visual art and aerial dance! For their gallery show, the girls collaborated with archivist Dr. Catherine Powell, director of the Labor Archives & Research Center at SF State, and visual artist Lala Openi to translate stories about housing, immigration, and labor activism into visual art.
