Acid Mothers Temple: Show Preview

Wednesday, May 7 2014

Launching in Japan in the 1990s, the mystical psychedelic rock collective Acid Mothers Temple has grown more difficult to keep track of with each passing year. This is thanks to the AMT name being associated with not one but at least 10 (!) different bands — among others, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. (the core group and incarnation visiting S.F.), Acid Mothers Afrirampo, and Acid Mothers Guru Guru Gong. Dozens of members have played in these outfits, with guitarist Kawabata Makoto the one link between almost all of them. In tandem, these bands have generated heaps of psychedelic rock albums with trippy, word-salad titles like Pink Lady Lemonade: You're from Outer Space and 41st Century Splendid Man Returns. If you're game for taking your imagination galactic, this is your ticket.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
