A Very Mary Christmas

Wednesday, Dec 7 2011
When you think “drag queen,” you probably think “glamorous lip-synching.” So it may come as some surprise to hear about The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes, in which talented local queens not only wear holiday sweaters in the manner of Bea “Not Glamorous, Exactly” Arthur, but also recite the exact words of the beloved sitcom. The annual show is fast becoming a Bay Area tradition, one whose wigs are astonishingly perfect replicae of the television originals. It’s satirical comedy, to be sure, but the quite genuine warm fuzzies begin with the loud and accurate audience rendition of the famous theme song, and end with the cutest little senior-drag lap dance you could ever hope to get if it’s your birthday.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Dec. 1. Continues through Dec. 23, 2011

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
