    Excessive, Insane, and Amazing

Cult movies should be mistakes, not intentional. There's no indication that Nobuhiko Obayashi meant for his 1977 feature debut House to appear — three decades later, to non-Japanese viewers — completely insane. But it is: batshit, Technicolor, fairy-tale-meets-softcore-porn insane. Seven…

    How the West Was Wasted

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Warner Bros.) Beautifully shot, masterfully acted, and 19 hours too long, Assassination is an uneven mix of the artful and the arty that never had a shot at bringing in…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
