    When Less Really Is More

U.K. producer SBTRKT — a.k.a. "subtract," or Aaron Jerome to his mates — actually operates by an additive property: Begin with equal portions of Chicago house's insistent thump, dubstep's throaty bass, U.K. funky's Afro-Latin percussion, and modern R&B's stuttering synths;…

    Groove On, Groove Off

Despite the name — a combination of a record player brand and a Southern Californian sensei — Fujiya & Miyagi is a groove-anchored, glitch-spattered British quartet, not an audiophile martial arts mentor. Then again, is there much difference between the…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
