    DJ Assault|Anticon|Static

Midwest marauders DJ Funk (Chicago) and DJ Assault (Detroit) go at the turntables hard and fast, dropping records with beats so insistent, it's hard to turn them down. Assault brings a tad more nastiness to his mixes, throwing hip-hop records…

Now that lurid sex acts have been (sort of) banned in the backroom of Powerhouse (as well as at all other SOMA bars after a recent bust at My Place), the venue's "Wrasslin'" night is the next best way to…

Every trend, no matter how fleeting or forgettable, can cough up at least one masterpiece that marks its zenith. The most durable artifact that's emerged from the irksome '80s revival (reissued Garbage Pail Kids, anyone?) might be the recent work…

1997 might as well be a lifetime ago. Back then we'd rake in piles of dot-com cash every week just to blow it every weekend on a fascination with four-on-the-floor club culture. Maybe that's why the re-emergence of Bristol's Way…

With the House of Shields' old-fashioned Victorian fixtures, glossy tiled floor, and ostentatious old bar, you might expect to hear, say, an easy listening-ish jazz trio pumping out some smooth jams, or a cabaret chanteuse belting out a tacky Rodgers…

Something about DJ Zygote's mixed bag of melodic IDM and delicate indie rollicking gives "Under the Radar" the slightly dour charm of an ex-lover's mix tape. But just when you start to get nostalgic for the old days of spinning…

For some time now, the hipster aristocracy has communicated solely through expressions of blissful irony. Yes, this is the age in which the impresarios of cool reminisce about their Transformers lunchboxes, "rock with their cock out" to G'n'f'n'R, and dress…

If you wake up on a Sunday morning with a splitting hangover and a hazy recollection of throwing back Mojitos while shaking a beaded gourd, there's a good chance you were at the Tunnel Top's ongoing Saturday happening, "Nosotros." The…

This New Year's Eve, promoters the A List and Delicious Karma are hosting "Wish," an event that will manage to be both opulent (they've promised to transform the venue into "paradise" through the aid of "over $40,000 in décor") and…

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
