420 Potency

Wednesday, Apr 11 2012
This 4/20, instead of smoking out on Hippie Hill, take a more adventurous trip and submit yourself to the global rhythms of South Rakkas Crew. Jamaica-born, U.S.-based Dennis "D-Rakkas" Shaw and Canadian producer-songwriter Alex Greggs splice together a mishmash of sounds — dancehall, electro, moombahton, reggae, dubstep, even art-rock — into tracks and mixes that rank among the most potent dancefloor-fillers being made anywhere right now. The Crew's "Renegade Rasta" is easily the most addictive ass-shaker on the moombahton compilation released by Diplo's Mad Decent label, so it's no wonder South Rakkas Crew has been racking up accolades from all over the world

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
