Rejoice, vegans (almost) (kind of) everywhere: Subway now offers you the opportunity to enjoy a completely vegan sandwich. This brave new choice is being rolled out in LA, but you should expect it in your hometown soon. Call Subway and demand your vegan options now. (Also demand that they bring back the Flatizza bread immediately.)

Week in Vegan: Rob Zombie, Prague, and Pretty Cupcakes

Emily Deschanel (the best Deschanel, in my opinion) is hosting a vegan birthday party for her son, who she says is "99 percent vegan." Her son doesn't yet have a pet of his own (guinea pigs are the best!), but Deschanel has been taking him to Farm Sanctuary to hang out with the animals. They're going to eat tacos at his party. The Deschanels, not the animals.

Week in Vegan: Bacon, Bread and a Helpless Dog

  • Here's a gentle reminder: Bread may be vegan, but that doesn't mean you should eat load after load. Same goes for any vegan food. Moderation in everything is key, and as veganism becomes more and more mainstream, it's important to remind ourselves that a plant-based diet (based only on eating vegan with no thoughts to nutrition) can be just as unhealthy as any other diet out there. So put down those jo-jos and say hello to a green leafy vegetable. I know, I'm mourning, too.

The Week in Vegan: Fighting Stress, Struggling Sea World and Carrageenan

  • Is something holding you back from going full-on vegan? Are you ready to let it all go and jump in feet first? Here are some reasons you may be holding out and some ways that you can work around them. For instance, did you know that you should change one habit at a time? If it's cheese you're most concerned with, work up to it. Don't just give it all up at once or you're headed for (possible) disaster. (Also: Cheese is a category; don't try to give it up by type. We both know you don't even eat Camembert!)

The Week in Vegan: Couture, Controversy and Pole Dancing Champions

  • Just a reminder: The Humane Society isn't a vegan organization. While the org does a lot of good, it's also sponsoring a Colorado event charmingly entitled "Hoofin' It" which showcases the deliciousness of a different hoofed species several nights in a row. That's gross. JL Fields (huge fan!) contacted the HSUS and they reminded her that they're not just working to better the lives of animals, they're also working to end inhumane practices in the farming industry. I guess that's something, but, like Fields, I'm having a hard time justifying my support of the HSUS when they sponsor an event like this.

  • Here's a pretty awesome interview with the cardiologist who is asking his patients to go vegan. Some may call him radical (not in the good way that The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are), but I think it's awesome that he's promoting heart health by letting people how going vegan can dramatically alter their health. You keep doing you, Dr. Williams. Don't let anyone get you down!

The Week in Vegan: Water Bills, Vegan Baking and Scandalous License Plates

  • A Detroit woman has taken on PETA's vegan challenge in return for getting her water bill paid and her water restored. While PETA's challenge has been seen as controversial (why force people to jump through hoops when they're down?), some are saying that the deal isn't quite so bad, with participants just having to make a concerted effort to go vegan in order to obtain the help they need. Humiliating or empowering? What do you think?

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
