Foie Gras Dishes Currently Being Served in the Bay Area

Amazingly, it’s still illegal to produce in Spain, but foie gras is once again showing up on California restaurant plates outside of the secret demimonde of forbidden pleasures. If you're the sort of person who seeks such pleasures, you might be wondering just where you can get it, so here are the foie gras dishes currently being served, with seven highlights we expect to see again soon.

One thing to note: There may be protesters. PETA was out in full force at One Market yesterday, even though the restaurant has not yet begun offering a foie gras dish on its menu just yet.

Verbena was one of the most delightful surprises of the 2014 dining scene, a place where chef-partner Sean Baker took improbable-sounding combinations of vegetables and made them most delicious. And now the chef has announced his departure from the Russian Hill restaurant and its sister, Gather in Berkeley. Per Inside Scoop, Baker will transition out of the restaurant over the next two months. His next move is TBA.

Tartine May Be Expanding to London as Well as Tokyo

Tartine: so hot right now. The legendary San Francisco bakery announced earlier this year its expansion plans to the Heath Ceramics building, and a few weeks ago Inside Scoop broke the news that the bakery was opening a Tokyo outpost.

Now owner/baker extraordinaire Chad Robertson tells GrubStreet that he's considering a London location, too. All that, plus the Bar Tartine cookbook comes next month, and Robertson is developing healthy whole-grain buns for Loco'l,  the Daniel Patterson/Roy Choi fast food concept.

Saison's Josh Skenes Is Opening a Fast Casual Noodle Restaurant

Hot on the heels of the announcement that S.F.'s Daniel Patterson and L.A.'s Roy Choi are opening a healthy fast food chain, Loco'l, in 2015, now Saison's Josh Skenes has announced his plans to open a fast-casual noodle restaurant with L.A.'s Adam Fleischman, of Umami Burger and 800 Degrees fame.

Fat Noodle will move into the corner of Second and Mission, serving handmade noodles and other specialties of the the western and central Chinese provinces like Sichuan and Shaanxi.

Daniel Patterson and Roy Choi to Open Fast Food Restaurant in the Tenderloin

Big news out of Copenhagen's food-focused MAD symposium today: California chefs Daniel Patterson and Roy Choi announced plans to collaborate on a new fast food chain, Loco'l. It will be focused on bringing healthy, high-quality food to underserved areas in the community and its first location will be in the Tenderloin, according to Inside Scoop.

The idea is to compete with chains like Burger King and McDonald's, but serving good-tasting, healthy food. So, the menu will have burgers, called smashes, that have things like beef combined with a grain/tofu mixture on whole grain buns developed by Tartine's Chad Robertson. There will also be rice bowls and salads, all priced at $2-$6.

New Law Finally Makes It Legal to Bring Dogs Into Restaurants

It's an open secret that you can hang out with your dog in certain bars and restaurants in San Francisco, but technically even letting a dog onto a patio has been illegal this whole time. Not anymore! On Thursday, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law that overturned a previous ban on pets in restaurants. It will go into effect Jan. 1, 2015.

San Francisco's First Cat Cafe Signs Lease in Hayes Valley

Cat lovers, rejoice: KitTea, San Francisco's cat cafe, has signed a lease in Hayes Valley. Those who want to enjoy a cup of tea while cuddling with 10-12 felines will soon be able to do so at the corner of Gough and Page.

Owner Courtney Hatt has signed a five-year lease at the property, according to neighborhood blog Hoodline, and should be open within three or four months.

Three Bay Area restaurants are in the running for Bon Appetit's 10 Best New Restaurants in America.

Olema's Sir and Star and S.F.'s Tosca Cafe and Kin Khao could be some of the 10 best new restaurants in America, according to Bon Appetit, but we'll have to wait until Aug. 19 to find out.

When technology and high-end restaurants collide, you can start treating dinner like a concert or sporting event by buying tickets. The software behind Chicago's legendary Next and Aliena reservation tickets was released recently by the brains behind it, restaurateur Nick Kokonas. Now two San Francisco restaurants, Coi and Lazy Bear, will also be utilizing the system (Coi already debuted it on July 21). According to Kokonas, restaurants in Asia and Europe are already using it.
