Plus Spaghetti Bros. introduces a Sunday Sugo prix fixe, flour + water turns seven, and Taiwanese xiaolongbao purveyors Din Tai Fung open next week in Santa Clara.

Fénix Now Open in the Former TBD
TBD's name acquired a grimly ironic twist since the space lay vacant for five years after a fire, but it's replacement, Fénix (1077 Mission), is now open and bedecked in lotería wallpaper. The menu, while studded with the queso fundido and carne asada one might expect, has a cool feature: The five large plates come with 12(!) little tastes, kind of like Korean banchan. Finally, someone's tunneling out of our small-plates jail cell. Oh, and the four sangrias are only $5 a glass during happy hour (4:30-6 p.m)

Sunday Sugo at Spaghetti Bros.
If you like Trestle, you will want to mull this one over. Starting Sunday, May 15, Spaghetti Bros. (3213 Scott) will offer a three-course, family-style meal every Sunday (with eight dishes in total, at $35/person). From noon to 4:30 p.m., there will be a la carte brunch supplements (plus a build-your-own-mimosa option), and from 4:30-9 p.m., the supplements will be drawn from the restaurant's standard dinner menu.

Din Tai Fung to Open Shortly in Santa Clara
Xiaolongbao are Shanghai dumplings, but one of the most well-known purveyors is from Taiwan. Inside Scoop reports that the Bay Area's first Din Tai Fung will open on or after May 10 in Santa Clara's Westfield Valley Fair. "Expect very, very long waits," they said, bolding and italicizing for emphasis, as Din Tai Fung is famous around the Pacific Rim and doesn't accept reservations.

Flour + water Celebrates Seventh Birthday With Pasta Tasting Menu
For the week of May 9-14, flour + water (2401 Harrison) will scratch its seven-year itch with a seven-course, $70/person tasting menu of past and present favorites from Chef Thomas MacNaughton's menu. Beyond that, late-night eaters can enjoy a special off-the-menu dish starting at 9:30 p.m. nightly.

FREE COOKIES: CookieLove Turns One
Nob Hill's CookieLove (1488 Pine) will celebrate its first birthday on Sunday, May 15 with a free cookie with any purchase, along with an expanded menu. Beyond the usual Snickerdoodles and Dark Chocolate Mint Chip, you will find Matcha Madness, a Potato Chip Pecan, and Bananarama! (with bananas and butterscotch. Get thee hence, cookie monsters.

Verve Coffee Hits Church and Market This Summer

Saying the Castro is already sufficiently saturated with coffee places is like insisting Donald Trump can't possibly get the nomination, so let's just shrug and say the more the merrier here. Verve Coffee Roasters will move into the former Veo Optical space at 2101 Market (at Church), a high-traffic corner if there ever was one.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
