The Cider Summit Returns to the Presidio April 23
Want to try 150 ciders in one afternoon? (Or a smaller, more manageable fraction thereof?) Check out the
Cider Summit, held in the Presidio on Saturday, April 23. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the proverbial door, $50 for VI.P.'s and $5 for designated drivers. [
Note: Drinking-and-driving automatically makes you a jerk, but being federal property, it's an especially terrible idea to drive drunk in the Presidio.] Yes, we announced this a little over a month ago, but the
lineup has since been finalized, so it bears repeating. I went to the Cider Summit
last year and it considerably broadened by perspective on this occasionally maligned quadrant of the alcohol universe.
Fiorella Starts Brunch
I ate at
Fiorella (2339 Clement) for this week's review — let me just plug their cacio e pepe one more time right now — and whaddya know, they're starting brunch. There's deviled eggs, polenta french toast, and an Italian michelada on the menu, which is available Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ritual coffee, too.
Elixir Commemorates the 1906 Earthquake
No one who experienced the shaker is alive anymore, but to salute
The Golden Hydrant, the plucky little fireplug at Church and 20th streets that saved the other half of San Francisco from burning down on April 18, 1906,
Elixir (3200 16th St.) will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from its on-tap cocktail — poured from a handle installed last fall that's also known as The Golden Hydrant — to the Novato Fire Foundation. That cocktail is the Elixir Mule, a variation on the Moscow Mule with Square One Botanical Organic Spirit, Top Hat ginger syrup, and muddle rosemary.
Two Eateries and a Dungeon Space Might Go Condo
Well, this is depressing. Hoodline reports that a fairly large development at the corner of Folsom and Russ streets in SoMa
could demolish Fondue Cowboy and Deli Board, as well as Alchemy, one of only a few dungeon-playspaces left in the area. I have had some
good times at Alchemy.
Michigan Cuisine Exists!
Cafe Eugene in Albany serves Oregon cuisine, which was new to me when I ate there. But here's a restaurant in suburban Detroit that serves Michigan cuisine, including Faygo, the soda much beloved by Juggalos. According to the
New York Times,

Drunk Czech Cop Hits 51 Parked Cars
A police officer in the
country with the highest per capita beer consumption in the world made a boo-boo. Sadly, the
AP doesn't reveal his BAC or have any video to let the world play back some entertaining footage of law enforcement behaving with such flagrant disregard for people's safety. (Also, FWIW the Czech Republic is officially
Czechia now.)
