Wednesday: Negroni Week! And a Fernet Tasting!

Plus Il Cane Rosso waves bye-bye, and there's a Fernet Francisco tasting a-comin'.

Negroni Week is June 6-12
It's not just gin-sweet vermouth-and-Campari cocktails. Last year's Negroni Week included Negroni Marshmallows from Craftsman & Wolves, a Negroni Mignonette by Chris Cosentino, and Negroni Pops from Humphry Slocombe — along with Mr. Holmes Bakehouse's DOUGHRONI (a jelly doughnut with Campari jelly and a Negroni-blood orange custard, served with a Negroni pipette). This year, the boozy charity event sponsored by Campari returns June 6-12.

Il Cane Rosso and Red Dog Have Closed 
The latter is allegedly only temporary, though. Founded by Daniel Patterson and eventually handed off to Lauren Kiino, the Ferry Building's Il Cane Rosso is gone for good, according to Inside Scoop. But Red Dog, a spinoff that opened a few years later in SoMa, should be back online soon. 

We're Getting a Fourth Espressamente Illy
It'll open May 1 at 505 Sansome St., not far from the original S.F. location of Espressamente Illy at 123 Battery.

Fernet Tasting Alert!
A couple months ago, it was Detroit artisans Shinola, and now it's Seattle's Filson. The manufacturers of "durable gear for explorers" have opened their first S.F. store and will host a tasting of Fernet Francisco's second barrel-aged Fernet for amaro connoisseurs at 722 Montgomery on Thursday, April 14 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Guy Fieri Appears to Be Slowly Ditching NorCarl for Vegas
Inside Scoop reports that Fieri has sold his stake in Johnny Garlic's, which has eight locations around these parts. Additionally, he's opening the extremely culturally sensitive-sounding El Burro Borracho in Vegas' Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, best known as the site of the World Series of Poker. This drunk donkey's menu includes a lot of Spanish 101 nouns, such as two burgers called El Gringo and El Hombre, plus a jalapeño-infused Caliente Margarita. (However, there is a poolside taco bar, so it's not all bad.)

Relentless Harassment from a Human Comments Section Makes Anti-Sexism Rant Go Viral
With the caveat that in a perfect world, we wouldn't need this kind of thing, the manager of Indianapolis' Black Acre Brewing Co. posted a Facebook rant about a truly horrific "goblin person" customer he had to keep ejecting over and over for his ceaseless harassment of female workers. This is a very satisfying read.

Do-Gooders Making Cheese in Kenya
There's a slight white-savior angle to this, but good work is good work. Via Munchies, Brown's Cheese Co. churns out quality Camembert and other cheeses in an unlikely quadrant of East Africa, with very little formal training. In a nation where NGO money has tried and failed repeatedly to supplement the home-grown dairy industry, this tactic seems to work. Most intriguingly, they're making "a coal-black smoked sheep’s milk cheese loosely inspired by mursik, a traditional Kenyan yogurt that is smoked, fermented, and preserved with charcoal." It's beautiful.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
