Thursday Nine: Dominique Crenn Waves Bye-Bye to Antoinette

Plus Anchor and the Giants release Orange Splash Lager in time for spring training, and you bet that Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is coming back.

Dominique Crenn Is Leaving Antoinette
It seemed weird that a chef with two Michelin stars would have a restaurant with two Yelp stars (albeit a much higher OpenTable rating). Turns out the members of the Claremont Club & Spa, which houses Crenn's third Bay Area restaurant, Antoinette, were not digging it and decided to vent their frustration — fairly or not — in a public venue. On top of that, disagreements between Crenn and the Fairmont (the hotels parent company) led the two to part ways. Antoinette will close on April 6.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck Is Coming Back for the Cherry Blossom Festival

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck — bursting with Sanrio character macarons, cookie sets, Hello Kitty Cafe mugs and T-shirts, and a pink bow-shaped water bottle. (Want!). It'll be hitting Roseville and San Jose, but more importantly, it's coming to Post and Webster streets on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, and again on Saturday, April 16 (10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day.)

I've Got My Spine, I've Got My Orange Splash
Timed with the start of baseball season, Anchor Brewing and the S.F. Giants have collaborated on a limited-release beer. Orange Splash Lager is a 5.2 percent ABV citrus lager in cans modeled after the team's jerseys. You can find it around Northern California, Nevada, and Hawaii, but also in the Anchor Brewing Beer Garden in The Yard.

Coffee Cultures Opening Party
The second location of Jason Michel Paul's Coffee Cultures (1301 Mission) is already open, but will throw a party on Wednesday, April 6 from 4-8 p.m. all the same. You'll get lots of free things if you go: food, wine and beer, and (of course) Counter Culture coffee, roasted at the company's new West Coast roastery.

Gross. Hoodline notes that the reported issues are freakishly widespread, too, in spite of a lack of construction projects in the affected areas. But residents are reporting yellow-to-brown tap water at California St. and 17th Ave, Lake St. and Fifth Ave., and Fulton St. at 44th Ave.

Lolinda's Fernet-and-Old-Fashioned Happy Hour
If you like Fernet-and-Coke — duh — or Old Fashioneds — which happen to be the house's most popular cocktail — they'll be $7 at Lolinda (2518 Mission) every day from 5:30-7 p.m. And there's nibbles from the kitchen, too. It's a great place to park it while waiting for access to El Techo upstairs, or if you have theater tickets at nearby Alamo Drafthouse.

Baiano Pizza Open in Hayes Valley

Don't ask them for burritos, but Hoodline reports taht the second location of Baiano Pizza is open at 100 Gough. (The vaguely Italian-ish name refers to someone from Bahia, Brazil, as it turns out.) Note to people who don't like multiple TVs blaring as they eat: These mostly play cooking shows, on mute.

The New York Times Profiles a $700 Juice Machine With a Straight Face
What is it with techies who hate food and are determined to create expensive end-runs around the simple pleasures in life, under the banner of utopianism? This sounds better than Soylent, the grainy beverage intended for capitalism's drones to get all their nutrition from a gray slurry, but Juicero — which comes from a "raw food evangelist" who eats the occasional steamed vegetable so "to not be "dogmatic" — is more than a mere app. According to the NYT: "The arrangement relies on a smartphone app, always-on Wi-Fi, QR codes, high-tech packaging and an army of workers slicing fruits and vegetables in very particular ways." So if your wifi goes out, you'll be reduced to blinking helplessly at piles of bananas and chia seeds.

The Angriest Whopper
Are you intrigued by Burger King's latest? It's supposedly red because of the hot sauce baked into the bun, but this BGR review of The Angriest Whopper concludes that it's pretty tame, even if you get to keep a wrapper that says "I Survived the Angriest Whopper," if you're so inclined.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
