Plus Chicks and Love Pizza will open in the former Rainbow Cafe, and you can get a Slurpee in any container you want today and tomorrow.

Sisters Who Distill
The East Bay Express announces the imminent arrival of Home Base Spirits, a distillery run by two native Oaklanders who happen to be sisters that is coming to a warehouse near Jack London Square. Except technically, it's not a distillery: They've applied for a "rectifier's license" as they'll be making the physical product elsewhere.

Capo's Matt Molina Wins "Best of the Best" at the International Pizza Expo
Yes, Molina won at the largest pizza show in the world, and congratulations to him. Better for us, though: You can now eat Matt Molina's prize-winning pizza, the Crown Point, at Capo's (641 Vallejo). The $37 pie comes with sharp cheddar, mozzarella, garlic, red onion, peppadew peppers, broccolini, wild arugula, basil, a balsamic reduction, oregano, and grated Parmesan, and it's baked in cast-iron. Molina has won before: In 2014, another pizza of his
("The Dillinger") won the American Pan division of the International Pizza Challenge.

Chicks and Love Pizza Coming to Rainbow Cafe

Vanda Chong and Kellie Joe's Chicks and Love Pizza will open in May at the Rainbow Grocery-adjacent space formerly occupied by Rainbow Cafe. According to Inside Scoop, Chong is a worker at the grocery, and Joe is a CIA graduate with years of culinary experience. Look for thin-crust pies when it debuts (although hours are a bit unusual for a pizza joint, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Cher Is Currently Mid-Tweetstorm About Easter Candy
If you tweet, you must follow Cher. She seldom makes any sense but her intentions are pure. Right at this moment, she's tweeting a lot about Donald Trump and about Easter candy, and also posting pics with her 90-year-old mom. This particular tweet uses "ITS" for "IT'S" but otherwise a grammatical triumph for Cher, who by the way turns 70 in May.

A Love Letter to the Rice Cooker
FiveThirtyEight.com's Anna Maria Barry-Jester pens a paean to her favorite kitchen appliance, the rice cooker. It's the child of Japan's two national obsessions: rice and robots, she writes, which is why rice cookers are smarter than toasters: "Fuzzy logic is a subset of the artificial intelligence used in robot s, and rice is so important in the diet that manufacturers are constantly looking for better ways to cook it."
