Plus Bernie Sanders gets an ice cream flavor, TBD will become an upscale Mexican restaurant, and more.

Smitten Goes to the Marina
Five years after its brick-and-mortar debut in Hayes Valley and coming just as it opens on Valencia Street, Smitten Ice Cream will set up another liquid-nitrogen Brrr machine at 2268 Chestnut Street in the Marina. Curiously, founder Robyn Sue Fisher found that the space was an ice cream parlor called Eastman Ice Cream in the 1930s and '40s. By the summer, there will be four Smittens in S.F., plus more in the East Bay as well as one in L.A.

Hamlet Rolls Out Brunch (Including R&B Cocktails)
Noe Valley's Hamlet debuted a brunch menu over the weekend, and it's rather extensive, running from a porchetta, egg, and cheese sandwich with hash browns to a pork chile verde stew to a polenta-and-vegetable ragu. (There's even suppertime-sounding dishes like Arctic char with spicy Moroccan sausage.) On top of this, there's a hip-hop-inflected cocktail menu with drinks like 'Nuthin But a G Thang' (gin, Genepy, ginger, lemon, sparkling wine) and Peaches & Cream (rum, peach liquor, citrus, cream, egg white.)

TBD to Be Reborn After Fire
The follow-up to AQ, Mark Liberman and Matt Semmelhack's TBD didn't last very long before a fire took it out. According to Inside Scoop, the insurance paperwork has all been filed, and now the former TBD space is set to reopen as Fénix, an upscale Mexican restaurant that appears to be in the mold of Cala and La Urbana (but with a beer-and-wine liquor license). Look for this mythical bird to debut sometime in the spring.

A16 Rockridge and Trappist Provisions' Italian Craft Beer Dinner
Some Beer Week dinners have some serious synergy. A16 Rockridge is pairing up with nearby Trappist Provisions for a major meal this Thursday, Jan. 28. It's a la carte, but you get seven different opportunities for Chef Rocky Masselli's food paired with Italian beers, including a plate of oysters, horeradish, shallot, and vinegar with Borgo's Perle E Porci oyster stout, and blood sausage and smoked pork belly with Ducato saison/lambic that's been aged 12 months.
Italian Craft Beer Dinner, Thursday, Jan. 28, at A16 Rockridge, 5356 College Ave., 510-768-8003 or a16rockridge.com.

Bernie Sanders Ice Cream
This was inevitable. Ben Cohen of the Burlington, Vt.-based Ben & Jerry's has created a limited-edition run of 40 pints of Bernie's Yearning, a mint chip ice cream with a chocolate disc on top. It represents the American economic order, a thin layer of ultra-rich people above the rest of us. According to The Hill, you're supposed to break it apart and share it with your fellow Americans.

Ice Cream Nails
If you really like ice cream, Bravo's Tamara Palmer found some Instagram images of foodie nail art, some of which are rather three-dimensional, including pizza, sashimi, and the red palm border on In-N-Out cups.

The $1.5 Million Potato
A portrait of a very comely potato, looking slightly like an irregular moon of Saturn and coated with a thin patina of sandy loam, has sold for $1.5 million (Australian). Franco-Irish celebrity photographer Kevin Abosch snapped Potato #345 against a black background, making it much better than most iPhone shots of tasty spuds.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
