CUESA's The Art of the Modern Drink: Winter Cocktails of the Farmers Market

In just a few weeks, CUESA, San Francisco’s own non-profit dedicated to educate us urbanites on sustainable agriculture, will be hosting another of their grand cocktail events in the Ferry Building.

The Art of the Modern Drink will kick off the new year’s boozy must-attend parties on Wednesday, Jan. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m., which is super convenient because it’s my mom’s birthday, so now I have something exciting to take her to.

If booze is your thing, which I know it is since you’re reading this, note that 13 of the city's most prominent bartenders will be in attendance. They’ll be slinging their mixologies alongside five participating chefs and restaurants — so far — including the new Alamo Drafthouse, which will presumably not be bringing a mobile movie theater. Bartenders from other favorites like Dirty Habit, Wingtip, and Lolinda will be there, as well as Whitechapel, the new gin joint brought to fruition by the same team behind Smuggler’s Cove.

Included in the ticket price are three full-sized cocktails and an endless supply of various sample-sized drinks. There will also be haute bites up for grabs, which make for a tasty way to pad your stomach as you get drunk with me (and my mom).

Also it’s 2016, and we all know what that means. Yes — the SF MOMA reopens, this time as the largest modern and contemporary art museum in the entire U.S. As I often say: Suck on that, New York. May 14 is the day to mark in your calendar for the grand opening, but they’ll be making an appearance at the Art of the Modern Drink, too. The food and drinks will be infused with the spirit of Piet Mondrians, David Flavins, and other iconic works, making it a great way to get ready for the much anticipated re-opening of the museum.

Perhaps most importantly, CUESA will be doing what they do best; sharing their knowledge on sustainable agriculture in a fun, delicious way. Urban life inherently limits exposure to where our food comes from, making the work CUESA does invaluable to people who want to contribute to a food culture that’s both ethical and sustainable. Absorbing this information while getting drunk and full is just an added bonus.
