Fine Dining Deal: L.A. Chef Collective Supper Liberation Front Pops Up Monday

While most of L.A. might care about getting famous, these chefs don’t. Supper Liberation Front is a collective of anonymous professional chefs fighting the good fight against pretentious and pricey fine dining experiences, and they’re popping up with a seven course meal at the Payne Mansion Hotel on Monday night. 

Who are these chefs finishing menus with hoisin truffle tartlets and bee pollen cream, sans the fancy wine glasses and exorbitant price tag? I can’t tell you, because, well that’s the point. By keeping their names out of the press the founders believe you’ll have no other reason to join them for dinner than the food. So if unagi-foie dumplings in red roast pork consommé followed by game hen with rhubarb, sunchoke, persimmon, and foie-black olive pebbles sound like good fifth and sixth courses, keep reading.

For $85 you’ll get the seven course meal and for $120 it’ll be paired with four cocktails. If you’ve already clicked on the menu and found the cocktail, Inside Deep Throat, don’t be confused like I was — it really is made with a reposado tequila infused with the flavors of a pork taco. Plus ham broth, pineapple, lime, and egg white.

What I can tell you about who will be cooking is that the collective spans the continent and has popped up in places like Mexico City, Baja, Napa and throughout the Northwest. In L.A. they offer nine course meals at rotating locations. On Monday there will be four of them in the kitchen, two based in the Bay Area, along with Works in Progress, an LA mixologist.

According to the S.L.F. website, the collective is challenging the convention that innovative, thought-provoking cuisine is beyond the reach of the common man. Hopefully grabbing a reservation is within reach for you on Monday night. Make a reservation here.
