The middle of August signals the approach of yet another exciting season of NFL football. This year, it also marks the first anniversary of chef Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak at Levi's Stadium. To celebrate the occasion, the restaurant — located at the epicenter of Niners football — is hosting a Backyard BBQ this Tuesday, Aug. 11. Granted, for many S.F. residents, trekking an hour south to Santa Clara outside of game day might be a hard sell. Here's why this event might make them consider the commute. (Hint: it involves pulled pork, professional athletes, and unlimited beer).

Kicking off at 6 p.m. and going strong for three hours, the Backyard BBQ will showcase an all-you-can-eat array of carnivorous delights. Grilled sausage, ribs, barbecue chicken, pulled pork, and brisket all play prominently on the menu. Endless beer, wine, and speciality cocktails are also included in the $150 price tag. Factor in a live DJ, football toss, and corn hole, and it turns into tailgate prep for the pre-season — with one notable addition: actual Niners players in attendance. Although specific names have yet to be released, organizers confirm that the event will be peppered with several high-profile members from the team and coaching staff.

If you haven't already been to Bourbon Steak before or after a Niners game, Tuesday's shindig provides a solid cross section of what you've been missing. In addition to all that meat, head chef Chris Curtiss — a Bay Area native — weaves a good deal of locally-sourced seafood and veggies into the restaurant.

“I wanted the menu to reflect a celebration of my West Coast homecoming," Curtiss said. "With a bounty of deliciously fresh, continuously changing seasonal ingredients that bring a decidedly South Bay flavor.” Much of it is farmed within football-toss of the stadium from nearby vendors like Dirty Girl Produce and Capay Organic. Add to that Mina staples, like Ahi Tuna Tartare and Maine Lobster Pot Pie, and you've got an experience far removed from stereotypical stadium fare.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
