If memories of awkward pre-teen angst and gnarly, grey food on a cafeteria tray are what you remember from camp, the ability to trek to Meat  Camps offers an adult chance to at least eat better. Picture grilling over a wood fire and glamping in Shasta Valley with sustainable meat operator Belcampo Meat Co. Belcampo just announced that it would offer two camps for this summer: women’s meat camp (August 6-9) and gay men’s meat camp (August 13-16).

Both are billed as a way to “create a community through food,” with how-tos on knife skills, meat cutting, the intriguing sounding “breakfast sausage making,” as well as “chopstravaganza.” Belcampo’s Co-Founder and CEO, Anya Fernald, and President of Belcampo Meat Co., Bronwen Hanna-Korpi, will lead Camp.

Fernald told SFoodie the reasons behind the camps: "I learned wood fire cooking as an adult  it involved burning my eyebrows off a few times, having limitless access to meat and a passion for grills. I thought if I could offer people a way to build up that comfort around the product and the fire, it could be transformative for them in the way it has been for me. I thought the camp would be most appealing to people that traditionally do not “own” the grill growing up, which is why I started out with women and gay men. We’re actually launching a men’s camp and a couple’s camp in the fall as well — sticking with the ‘affinity groups’ but responding to the requests we’ve gotten from lots of straight men who want a camp too."

Camp is not cheap: $3750 per person for single occupancy and $2500 per person for double occupancy, which covers lodging, food, all camp courses, and any transportation used over the weekend. Campers have to get themselves to and from camp, a trek that is pretty and could in theory lead to meaty conversations and ideas.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
