Fort Point Beer Co. and the "Everyday Beer" (VIDEO)

Max Junk Feb 10, 2015 13:51 PM

Fort Point Beer Co., founded in January 2014, strives to brew a craft beer that represents San Francisco — but is poised to have mass appeal.

Brothers Justin and Tyler Catalana founded Fort Point Beer Co. with a focus on brewing an "everyday beer," a simple, quality brew that shows expert craftsmanship and creativity. Justin explains that Fort Point Beer Co. is not looking to compete with other local craft breweries, and that they are instead focused on big names such as Stella and Budweiser. Justin says of taking on the giants that, "[it's] a more fun fight to pick; I don't need to pick a fight with my peers in the City."

With this mentality, Fort Point Beer Co. is more honing in on brewing session beer (the everyday beer) rather than what many other local craft breweries are focused on brewing: IPAs, stouts, saisons, and so on.

And while Fort Point Beer Co. is growing, they're still maintaining a focus on their local presence with acting as their own distributors with bar owners, and brewing here in S.F. (they're located in Crissy Field).

Check out our video below, where we sit down with co-founder Justin Catalan and head brewer Mike Schnebeck and talk beer:
