If you can’t get to Napa this weekend, the San Francisco Vintners Market might make a good alternative. Created by Cornelius Geary and Jeffrey Playter, founders of the technology and wine networking organization Wine 2.0, the event strives to shorten the distance between wineries and wine-loving San Franciscans.
The best part: You can sample wines there and take home a whole bottle of the ones you like the most. The event models itself on a farmers market, letting you sip on all types of wines until you find the one that satisfies your palate. When you fall in love with a specific glass, you can take the whole bottle home right on the spot. If only we could sample and buy wines at grocery stores in the same way.
More than 150 wineries will attend, coming everywhere from Napa Valley to Santa Barbara to Paso Robles. The event will also feature new releases and special collections. So it might be a good opportunity to holiday shop for your wino buddies, too. Christmas sweaters and gift cards are great and all — but you can’t drink them.
Judging by the photos from
last year’s event, the Vintners Market is perfect for both serious brow-furrowing wine tasters and the more playful sippers (shout-out to the people photographed wearing Viking hats). We figure this is just another great excuse to discover great wines and be the life of the next party. You know, the one who brings a great bottle of wine straight from the winery — we won’t tell anyone where you actually got it from.
