The Week in Vegan: World Vegan Day, Best Brands for Leather and Baby Elephants

Posted By on Mon, Nov 3, 2014 at 2:01 PM

Saturday marked that annual holiday known as "World Vegan Day." For anyone interested why such a day even exists or matters, here's an excellent rundown from The Huffington Post.

Comedian Anthony Andersen's really slimmed down lately. What's his secret? i can't divulge all (classified information on a need to know basis, you see), but he told Access Hollywood that a diet that featured more plants than meat ("vegan-ish") has helped him lose the pounds and, more importantly, fight diabetes.

Here's just another helpful post that will help you respond to the age-old question< of "but how do you get your protein???"

And here's another reminder of all the delightful vegan places in Oakland. Or at least some of them. Listen, have you been to Souley Vegan? It is some of the most delicious food you will ever eat and I will never not blog a listicle that reminds the public that a crunchy vegan burger exists.

It's fall and it's finally getting cold in the Bay Area. And that means more and more of us are looking for warm and stylish clothing that's also cruelty-free. Here are the best brands for vegans going for that leather look without going for the whole unfashionable murdering animals for their skin business.

A new vegan restaurant is coming to the bay! It's called Citizen Fox (adorable) and it's about to blast onto the scene with a special benefit dinner which will feature not only delicious food (you had me at crostini), but a film on factory Farming (Cowspiracy) and a Q&A with the film makers. The whole thing is happening this Thursday and you can buy tickets online. Let me know how it goes because it all sounds fantastic!

It's Monday, so here are some adorable baby elephants just going at it in the mud to remind you that weekends still exist and one is soon coming.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
