Ah fall, the time of year where the nights get longer, pumpkin spice permeates the air, and you have a chance to eat as many chicken wings as humanly possible. That's right: It's time once again for
Wing Wings' annual chicken wing eating contest, sponsored by the Lower Haight chicken purveyor and PBR. This year's festivities are going down on Saturday, Nov. 8 at SOMA StrEat Food Park.
Contestants at the charitable event can pick from two options. There's a timed contest, where the winner eats the most Angry Korean wings in 10 minutes (last year's winner ate 35, which may not sound like a lot, but the wings must be cleaned to the bone). If that sounds too easy, there's also a hella hella hot competition, where the winner eats 10 "hella hella hot" wings the fastest. (The secret recipe changes every year, says Wing Wings owner Christian Ciscle, and involves a lot of habenero.)
All proceeds — including the $150 in donations that are required by each contestant to enter — benefit
Curry Without Worry, an organization that provides about 250 hot and nutritious meals to the hungry in Civic Center each week.
