Brisket is not only the overlapping oval on a Venn diagram of two very different culinary traditions — Jewish fare and barbecue — it’s also insanely delicious. And now, for the year 5775 and beyond, you can eat brisket during the dinner hours at Wise Dons Delicatessen, 24th Street’s pre-eminent challah-teria.

Additionally, there’s a chicken schnitzel (with a shaved vegetable salad and harissa vinaigrette) and a plate of three latkes with apple sauce and sour cream. But as for the brisket, it’s hormone- and antibiotic-free; it’s braised with beer, onions and prunes; and it’s served with some intensely maple- horseradish turnips in what is perhaps the most novel use of a root vegetable I’ve encountered all year. (They might have been previously available as a stand-alone side, but they’re smashing next to the fatty brisket.)

The introduction of a dinner menu comes with some other changes, namely that there is now table service and they’re open on Tuesdays. As an added bonus, both Wise Sons and Rice Paper Scissors have partnered up with Soy Vay to put some additional menu items together — in Wise Sons’ case, a Hawaiian sandwich made with homemade SPAM on challah and Soy Vay’s teriyaki sauce.

They’re only available at Wise Sons’ Mission location through Oct. 24, however, so you really need to schlep over there sooner rather than later. And under no circumstances should you ever pass on the pickle plate.

Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, 3150 24th St., 787-3354.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
