Quitting your day job to make ice cream sandwiches is kind of the Platonic ideal of a satisfying life change. Fortunately for the people actually eating the ice cream sandwiches, Swich, now open in the Outer Sunset, was not born of drunk talk or a mid-life crisis, but of a sincere desire to make delicious treats. And what do you know, it’s been hot and it’s going to keep being hot for awhile, so the timing of its proprietors' exit from Corporate America couldn't be better.

Ice cream sandwich assembly is slightly complicated, although well-thought-out. You pick your square-shaped cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, butterscotch, red velvet or a gluten-free walnut fudge; yes, you can mix-and-match), and one of them is placed in a square mold as the bottom.

Then you choose your ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, mint chip, strawberry, or whatever the day’s special is), which is then pressed into the mold before the top cookie layer is added and the mold comes off. Want a topping? It’s only 25 cents to dip each side in crunch chocolate pearls or rainbow sprinkles, a pricing structure that feels innocent and old-timey. If the ice cream is fresh from the freezer, it’s quite a bit of hard labor putting it all together, however.

Swich opens at noon, and by 11:50 on Saturday morning, an impatient gaggle was already building up (mostly neighborhood teenagers, and me.) Immediately upon opening, the line kept lengthening with neck-craners, including a neighborhood cop on the beat. There’s coffee and wifi and other types of cookies at Swich, but everybody wanted the same thing. We know what ice cream lines tend to look like in this city, and it seems like just as the hottest part of the year hits, we may have another one.

Swich, 2045 Irving.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
