October serves up a chance to feel enthusiastic: a legitimate excuse to dress up and be extra creative gets the Halloween juices going', skies are blue and sunny at long last, gorgeous produce abounds, and there's a bounty of festivals celebrating everything from pumpkin to bluegrass.

Early next week, the Pacific Heights portion of Fillmore is sporting a three-day Wine and Food Festival, with events including wine, food (from Troya), and spices with vino expert Deborah Parker Wong at Spice Ace; a bourbon and bacon dinner with talking points from mixologist / bar pro H. Joseph Ehrmann at the Boom Boom Room; and boutique action, where the added draw may be the food bites and sips served — let's agree that shopping is easier when sustenance is an added reward.

A three-hour tour of thirty boutiques on Tuesday night has retail therapy, food bites, wine and silent auction items that in my professional experience tend to get competitive when the alcohol has kicked in. Tuesday night's Moveable Feast and Fashion's Night Out ($65) includes shopping with food “samplings” from pretty good restaurants: 1300 Fillmore, Baker and Banker, Bun Mee, Pizzeria Delfina, Glaze, La Mediterannee, Out the Door, Palmer's Tavern, Troya and Woodhouse Fish Co. are scheduled. For a full list of restaurants and wineries (Alexia Moore, Hook and Ladder, Macleod, Ousterhout, Schied) is on the website.

Scheduling a festival for so early in the week definitely grabs my attention, since festivals — like this summer's jazz festival in the Fillmore District traditionally tend to happen or at least wrap on weekends. It's unclear whether this festival's schedule potentially means fewer people or easier parking. According to Teresa Rodriguez of the Fillmore Merchants Association, the festival is happening during the week, because:

“We are lucky to live in a very prosperous and busy neighborhood and the truth is, all the restaurants and boutiques are very busy during the weekends. So, we chose Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!”

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
