Look, I like mimosas as much as the next day drinking enthusiast, but it is a truth universally acknowledged that Bloody Marys are the superior morning cocktail. They're savory instead of sweet, they're interactive, they deliver at least a few vitamins, they're endlessly customizable. On Sunday you can be part of history by attending the first annual
San Francisco Bloody Mary Festival, held at Public Works (1-4 p.m.) and drinking as many as you dare.
Thirteen Bay Area purveyors of Bloody Marys will be on hand, including favorites like St. Mary's, Maven, and Park Tavern.
Tickets are $40, but that includes all you can drink Bloodies and hopefully some food too ("food tastes" are promised, but eating some sort of fatty, absorbent breakfast first is probably advisable). You — yes, you — will be able to cast a vote in the people's choice category, and there will also be a panel of judges comprised of Bloody Mary experts.
Here's the list of contestants:
1) ELITE CAFE (Lower Pacific Heights)
2) HARVEYS (The Castro)
3) MAVEN (Lower Haight)
4) BLACKBIRD (Duboce Triangle)
5) TWENTY FIVE LUSK (Soma)
6) FINNEGAN'S WAKE (Cole Valley)
7) PARK TAVERN (North Beach)
8) THE BOARDROOM (North Beach)
9) CLIFF HOUSE (Sea Cliff)
10) ELIXIR (Mission)
11) ST. MARY'S PUB (Bernal Heights)
12) FIVE (Berkeley, CA)
13) NICK’S COVE (Marshall, CA)
Good luck.
