Week in Vegan: Subway, Style and Sailing with Vegan Superstars

Posted By on Tue, Sep 23, 2014 at 3:14 PM

Rejoice, vegans (almost) (kind of) everywhere: Subway now offers you the opportunity to enjoy a completely vegan sandwich. This brave new choice is being rolled out in LA, but you should expect it in your hometown soon. Call Subway and demand your vegan options now. (Also demand that they bring back the Flatizza bread immediately.)

PETA has decided that New York City is America's most vegan-friendly city. Say what you will about PETA (I agree, they're problematic), they're probably not wrong about this one. Now I have a reason to visit NYC. The last time I went I was so freaked out by everything because I was lost that I ate at a Chipotle and cried. That was a good day.

It's about to get cold in S.F. and you know what that means: Time to wear the trendiest winter clothes for approximately three to five minutes before the weather changes and you have to take off about twenty layers. But for those few consecutive moments when you can wear a coat, here are some stylish vegan options.

A teacher is suing a school district in Orange County because by making her stop protesting animal dissection in science classes, they may have violated her first amendment rights. We're still doing animal dissection? I thought there was an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch where schools decided to go digital. Why do kids needs to learn how to dissect a frog or a cat anyway? That's not a practical skill.

First there was a Paula Deen cruise, now there is a vegan cruise. In October you (yes, you) can sail the high seas and rub elbows with the likes of Vegan Black Metal Chef and Isa Chandra Moskowitz. I met Isa at a party once and if our ten minute conversation about glam chowder is any indication, her lectures alone will probably be worth the cost of admission.

Here's some news from the other side of the world (or wherever Australia is): Australian McDonald's are going to stop using eggs from caged hens. Awesome.

It's early in the week! Let's get ready to rumble! (With kittens.)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
