Anybody who grew up watching Romper Room — which is just about all of America, since it aired for 40 years — will be excited to know that there’s a new party bar with the same name two blocks east of Union Square. And you don’t even have to address the bartender as “Miss.”

Romper Room's everything-$12 cocktail list is quite simple, with an eye toward keeping service brisk and wait times brief. The Mexican Mai Tai (Espolón Blanco tequila, almond syrup, and pineapple, garnished with an orange slice and a cherry) is refreshingly tart but an after-work crowd with a lot of partying ahead of them might gravitate towards the Shot Caller (Ketel One, blueberries, basil, lemon, Red Bull and housemade grenadine). The beer and wine basics are covered, and high fives are listed at $0.

The combination of adult-fun-with-childhood-reminiscences is fitting, as during daylight hours the space happens to be the global HQ of CLASH (the California League of Adult Scavenger Hunters), those lighthearted purveyors of smartphone-based group games.

Just be aware that as the surrounding neighborhood becomes desolate and windblown at a certain hour on schoolnights, so too does Romper Room: it closest at 10 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Regarding the interior, “CLASH” might be an understatement, as “power clash” is more fitting. The upstairs in particular is a “Leopard Lounge,” with different jungle cat prints splashed on the carpet, the couches, and the walls. Colored diamond-shaped windowpanes (similar to the nearby, and always wonderful, Topsy’s Fun House), and lots of pink paint comprise the rest. Taken with the black-and-white restroom, all that pink looks like a gang moll’s boudoir, an opinion intended as sincere praise here in the land of super-serious reclaimed wood. Do have a romp.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
