We all love secret things: passages, menus, and stories. Even the most mundane gets a sheen of intrigue when it's secret, although most noteworthy when it yields something exclusive. A recent partnership between Burritt Tavern and Wingtip has revealed a secret dinner option that whisks you away and gives you and three guests access to Wingtip’s member’s only bar.

And it all starts with dinner and a drink.

There is a secret off menu cocktail at Burritt Tavern crafted by Wingtip bar manager Brian MacGregor called the Vieux Carré Me Away ($16, Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Scotch, Remy Martin VSOP Cognac, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, Angostura Bitters and Peychuad’s Bitters), a decadent rendition of the classic, that may grant you access to Wingtip Club.

Located on the 10th and 11th floors of the building, above the Wingtip store across the street from the Transamerica building, the club boasts a kind of hunting club elegance. The social club’s hub is the bar on the 10th floor, where MacGregor and his crew offer an impressive collection of whiskies from around the world along with creative and classic cocktails.

On the menu you’ll find the stylishly smoky Hoopdie Hoop ($14, Montelobos Mezcal, Combier, Cocchi Americano, lemon). The partnership with Burritt Tavern shows up there too in one of my favorite drinks around town, Josh Trabulsi’s Burritt Vesper Lynd ($13, Plymouth Navy Strength Gin, Cucumber infused Dolin Blanc). Given the James Bond theme that lightly perfumes the place, the drink is the club’s most seductive guest. My advice: Don’t say no.

Having the complete experience from Burritt Tavern to Wingtip requires some proper planning and luck. The luck part comes in mostly in the fact that Wingtip only allows guests when the club is able to accommodate guests. This means that even if you plan properly, you may still not get in, but plan anyway.

Call and make a dinner reservation at the Burritt Tavern with a group of no more than four. When you call, use the secret word “Wingtip” to let them know you are interested in visiting the club afterwards. Dressing nicely and behaving will help you get there, along with everyone in your group ordering the Vieux Carré Me Away at the end of the meal. A secret choice will present itself at some point during dinner and if you choose wisely a leather coaster will arrive with your drinks, the secret note that a black car will take you to Wingtip after dinner.

If you don’t make it in there are other ways to get access, but I prefer the game of chance. And if you don’t get in, just remember what Groucho Marx once said, “I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member.”

Vieux Carré Me Away

1 ½ oz. Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Scotch
½ oz. Remy Martin VSOP Cognac
½ oz. Martini Rossi Sweet Vermouth
1 Bar spoon Benedictine
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
2 Dashes Peychuad’s Bitters

Combine all ingredients into a double old fashioned glass with a large cube of ice, and stir until well chilled. Garnish with lemon peel.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
