San Francisco sandwich lovers are already familiar with Pal's Take Away, the Mission haven for salads and sandwiches made-to-order with local and organic ingredients, from the meat to the bread and literally everything in between. The man behind the sandwich magic is Jeff Mason, Pal's owner, founder, and sandwich-slinger, whose successful Kickstarter campaign moved the shop from inside Tony's Market at Hampshire and 24th Street up to La Movida Wine Bar at Folsom and 24th Street less than a year ago.

This week marks another milestone for Mason: Pal's fifth anniversary. Instead of celebrating with a cake, Mason is following in his usual tradition of curating a menu of guest sandwiches, designed and prepped by his friends and chefs from around San Francisco. "Every year, we make a fun day of it," says Mason. "And it means I don't have to do a lot of cooking!"

Stop by Pal's on Thursday and Friday to take part in this year's "One Sandwich at a Time" celebration. The menu is sure to get you salivating: choose from Hapa Ramen's pork katsu sadnwich, original co-founding-Pal Dave Knopp's smoked brisket, or Gialina & Ragazza's braised artichoke veggie. Don't forget an Almanac Brewing IPA, and top it off with Marla Bakery's chocolate pot de crème.

Although the chefs themselves won't be appearing behind the counter, the sandwiches and treats are entirely of their design. In some cases, the ingredients are provided already prepared by the chefs themselves -- Hapa Ramen's Richie Nakano will be taking care of the pork katsu ahead of time. "We just want to have something different for people to try," says Mason, who will be behind the counter both days during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Don't have time to stop by this week? Come by any day to try out Pal's constantly changing salad and sandwich menu, or every other Wednesday for burgers.

Pal's Take Away, 3066 24th St., (415) 203-4911.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
