The Week in Vegan: Oscars, Sofritas and Meerkats

Posted By on Mon, Mar 3, 2014 at 10:35 AM

  • The Oscars are over but we can cheer for these vegan celebrities all year long. Keep it classy, you guys.
  • Sofritas are going nationwide. Chipotle has announced that the best burrito filling ever (at Chipotle) will be seeing an expanded release. First stops: New York and Boston.

  • Even Extra is into vegan handbags and accessories now. Is it only a matter of time before we get Project Runway: Vegan? God, how great would that be? Just leopard-print pleather everywhere.
  • Here's everything you need to know about juicing. Fair warning: This is a great article but it doesn't mention the fatal mistake that novice juicers make, which is to juice everything they can. It's like a compulsion. At my lowest point I actually juiced an onion. (Not pretty.)
  • What's the deal with vegan sweeteners? How much Stevia belongs in your morning cup of coffee? (I take mine bitter, just like my attitude.)
  • Souley Vegan is raising funds to launch a grab and go line of items to be sold in markets (in the Bay Area and beyond) and they need your help. Being able to buy their fried tofu in stores? Sign me right up!
  • This meerkat has got that Monday feeling down pat. Who else isn't tired after staying up all night to watch the Oscars? (Great job, Adele Dazeem! )

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
