Coffee News: A Look at Blue Bottle's New Oakland Spot, Barista Competitions, and The Mill's Parklet

After sprouting in Oakland just over a decade ago, having now stretched its arms wide across the country, Blue Bottle is coming back home. Last week, the company opened up a new spot on a stretch of Oakland heavy with auto shops and fenced-in corridors, bringing with it whimsical siphons and a sleek sound system that give a turn of the century building a new lease on life. The spot is the old W.C. Morse building -- a lofting space with worn-down tiles and an industrial history -- and sits only a hop and a skip from Blue Bottle's flagship location.

    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
